Why Become a Paramedic

  • Good earning potential: EMT and paramedic positions offer a median annual salary of $49,000 along with a job growth outlook of 11% between 2020-2030.

  • High Industry placement rate: paramedics are in very high demand

  • Enter the field quickly: This program prepares you to take the National Registry EMT examination. After the successful completion of this exam, you’ll be ready to work as an EMT or paramedic.

  • Give Back to Your Community: EMTs and paramedics are often first to respond to accidents and crises and are a critical, life-saving link between the scene of an emergency and the healthcare system.

Program Medical Director: Ellen Stein

Ellen Stein, MD

The Vermont EMS Academy Consortium for Paramedic Education is unique in that the program oversight is directed by a board-certified emergency physician who also completed a fellowship in EMS. This background brings a strong understanding of the importance of EMS and the need for the development of well trained and competent paramedic providers.

Accreditation & Outcomes

The Vermont EMS Consortium for Paramedic Education program has been issued a Letter of Review by the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP). This letter is NOT a CAAHEP accreditation status, it is a status signifying that a program seeking initial accreditation has demonstrated sufficient compliance with the accreditation standards through the Letter of Review Self-Study Report (LSSR) and other documentation. Letter of Review is recognized by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) for eligibility to take the National Registry's Paramedic credentialing examination(s). However, it is NOT a guarantee of eventual accreditation. To contact CoAEMSP: 214-703-8445 www.coaemsp.org

These courses will meet in a cohort format and will prepare the student to be eligible to take NREMT’s Paramedic National Registry examination. Here is the course outline and below is the per-semester coursework for the VEMSACPE program.

We have articulation agreements with two colleges who have assessed our program and are willing to provide college credits for the training you receive here at VEMSA. These schools are Norwich University, based north of us in Northfield, Vermont, and Columbia Southern University, based in Orange Beach, Alabama.

This is a new program for 2025, so our current program outcomes are not yet known. We will report them after our first class, of course, but we will post them right after the first class finishes.
